Police mentioned they were contacted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

City officials said they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior political figure commented the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
